FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

What can I study with Mimora?

YouTube and Netflix videos with dual subtitles, Japanese news (read aloud if you like), everyday conversation scenes with voices, your own recordings and audio or video files transcribed into Japanese, and your PDF, Word and TXT files. All of them are studied sentence by sentence the same way, and what you save comes back in review. Netflix learning is available in the browser extension. Android supports YouTube learning; it does not support Netflix.

Do I need an account?

Yes. Your account connects your paid plan, learning library, progress, AI features, and sync across devices.

How does billing work?

Choose Basic or Lifetime. Each includes 10,000 Mimo Points monthly, expiring at month-end. A $1 Mimo Refill adds 1,000 points valid for 365 days.

Is there an Android app?

Yes — Mimora is a browser extension and an Android app. Study at your desk, review on the go; both are faces of the same library.

Where do captions come from?

From sources we may lawfully use, behind a TranscriptProvider interface. If no provider is available for a video, the product says so and offers an upload instead of inventing a transcript.

Is my library private?

Yes. Your library lives in IndexedDB on your machine. Sync is opt-in and goes to your configured Supabase instance, with row-level security enabled on every table.

Is this allowed by YouTube?

Search uses the official Data API v3 with a server-side key; playback uses the unmodified IFrame player. No scraping, no media download, no ad blocking. A compliance check fails the build if any of this regresses.

Are JLPT levels official?

No — JLPT publishes no official vocabulary or grammar syllabus. Levels in Mimora are estimates that carry their levelSource and a confidence value, labelled as such wherever they appear.

What are Scenes?

Short dialogues for real situations — a convenience store, a clinic call, meeting an old friend. Pick a role and play it line by line: say your line yourself and have AI check it fits, take a hint, or look. Your lines go into review. Studying any shared Scene is free; writing a new one is limited per month.
